Not all dermal fillers are created equal

Although fillers appear to be similar, their properties and the ways in which they are being produced are different.

Important questions to ask when embarking on a dermal filler regime, include:

  • Is the product easy to inject?
  • What is the duration of the product?
  • Will the product bruise, create swelling or inflammation,
  • Will the results look natural?

F.A.Q

What are Dermal Fillers?

Fillers are a soft injectable gel made up of stabilized, non-animal hyaluronic acid.

This means that its key component is carefully cross-linked hyaluronic acid. This water loving polysaccharide (sugar) is a natural part of your skin.

This means hyaluronic acid already exists in the human body and the hyaluronic acid in Fillers is biodegradable and fully biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

When injected into the skin, the clear hyaluronic acid gel absorbs water, increasing the volume and the fullness of the skin in the area to smooth out the undesired wrinkle or fold. But as time goes by it is gradually absorbed into the body, as would natural occuring hyaluronic acid in the skin. **

What happens a few months after the treatment?

Over time, your body will simply break down the hyaluronic acid molecules and eliminate them just as it does our own hyaluronic acid.

The difference between fillers?

Although HA fillers appear to be similar, their properties and the ways in which they are being produced are different. These differences have clinical impacts for the doctor in that they can affect injection technique, usage and the quality of the result, hence why we pay so much attention to them.

Particle size is a key factor that contributes to the different qualities and clinical effects of the various HA fillers. Other variables include gel hardness, HA concentration, and degree of cross-linking.

The particle size manipulation goal is to size the HA gel particles in such a way that the final product can be easily injected into the desired location and that these particles should mimic the size and shape of the natural tissue in that area. When done correctly the dermal filler product will not migrate and will offer complete fullness for the amount of product injected.

Are fillers safe?

Yes they are considered very safe. **

The globally recognised brand used by Dr Clark is at the pinnacle of modern filler technology and will be discussed with you at your consultation.

A laboratory made Hyaluronic acid that is injected into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the skin and will, with time, degrade naturally and leave the body safely.

There are limits

Considering the complexity of the areas/conditions being treated, as well as the aims and desires of the individual being treated, there is no ideal filler. Furthermore, no single product will be able to satisfy all requirements.

How long will the treatment last?

Latest research suggests that a treatment should last between 9 – 12 months***. Of course by following protocols set up by the SAI team and following a good homecare regime the treatment result can be lengthened.
